Rye still has plenty of the humble fibro and weatherboard beach shacks the Peninsula was covered in before the money arrived — modest holiday places on sandy blocks, a lot of them a few streets back from the front beach and the pier. More and more of them are coming down for contemporary rebuilds, so on any given Rye street you'll find a 1960s shack next to a new double-storey with a glass rear. The two are chalk and cheese to work on. The old shacks are lightweight and simple to run pipework through, but they're often uninsulated with tired wiring, so we check the switchboard and think about heat load properly rather than just bolting a head on. The rebuilds are open-plan and glazed, usually wanting a multi-head. Sandy soil is the norm here, which drains well, but we still make sure the condensate has proper fall. What's included in your Rye install
