Clyde still has one foot in its market-garden past — drive a few streets back from the new estates and you'll find older homes on big blocks, some on acreage, sitting next to brand-new house-and-land releases that are still going up. That split makes for two very different jobs under the same postcode. On the newer builds it's textbook split system work: brick veneer, 2.7m ceilings, open-plan living, back-to-back pipework to the side of the house. On the older homes on the larger blocks, the outdoor unit often ends up further from the room you're cooling, so we plan the pipe run and drainage more carefully to keep it neat rather than running lines across a rendered wall. Drainage fall matters on the older places too — we make sure the condensate actually runs away and doesn't pool. Sizing is worth getting right in Clyde because the newer homes tend to be large, with high ceilings and a lot of glass on the living zones catching the western sun. We spec for the real load. For the bigger four and five-bedroom homes going up here, a multi-head usually makes more sense than three separate units bolted around the house.
