Flinders sits right on the southern tip where Western Port meets Bass Strait, and it's a village with a bit of everything the exposed end of the Peninsula throws at you — the golf links out on the cliffs, the pier, West Head, and grand homes angled at a wild ocean view. Wind and salt come straight off Bass Strait onto the cliff-top homes, so outdoor unit placement isn't negotiable — off the brunt of the weather, braced hard, and specced for a harsh marine environment, or the unit won't see out its warranty. The homes tend to be large and substantial, often with sweeping open living opening onto the view, so we're usually planning multi-head systems that cover the floorplan off as few condensers as possible, kept well off the elevations that face the water. It's cool and windswept down here, so heating counts as much as cooling and we size reverse-cycle for both. Some blocks carry a bushfire rating on the bush side of the village, which shapes plant placement. Access on the cliff-side and larger properties takes planning. Older homes often need a switchboard upgrade. Flinders is a suburb where the weather really tries hard to wreck an outdoor unit, so getting placement and spec right is the heart of the job.
